    In order to access the highest possible marks in your CAPTURE unit you will spend some of this first week back producing some additional material for your Project Portfolio.

    To increase your RESEARCH marks you will choose TWO practitioners in your Capture Medium mentioned on your Timeline and look at an example of creative work produced by each of them (i.e. a video, animation or artwork, etc).

    Once you have taken notes on the works you will write a TWO-page Report that explores the following:

    PART ONE

    What differences are there in the ways your TWO practitioners use and work in their chosen medium?

    What other artists or experiences have influenced the development of their work?

    Give specific examples from the two pieces you have looked at and illustrate your Report with images or screen grabs to support your points.

    PART TWO

    What differences have changing technologies made to the ways these
    different practitioners produce creative work in their chosen medium?

    Use examples from their work to show how artistic techniques and creative practices have changed over time thanks to technical developments.

    You should refer to books as well as the internet to help you and use correct references where appropriate. You should also refer directly to dates on your Timeline where relevant.

    FOR ADDITIONAL MARKS

    To access the highest possible grades for Research you may want to look at a THIRD practitioner or compare TWO or more pieces of work by EACH practitioner instead of just one.

    The Reports must be completed as .PDF by 12.20 on THURS 7 December.

    To maximise your marks for MONITOR & REFLECT make sure that you have:

    • Included your PEER FEEDBACK TAG CLOUD. It is important that you REFLECT on the feedback also. Are you SURPRISED by any of the positive comments or the criticisms and WHY? WHAT would you change in the light of the feedback and HOW? Do you AGREE or DISAGREE with the points people made and WHY?
    • Embeded your FINAL RISK VIDEO from our Vimeo album. It is important that you COMMENT on the final video. How do you feel about it? What are you most pleased with and why?
    • Identify the SKILLS you have developed over the course of the project. What TECHNICAL skills have you learnt (editing, camerawork, animation, etc.)? What ARTISTIC skills have you developed (drawing, photography, performance, etc.)? What ORGANISATIONAL skills have you learnt (time-management, scouting for locations, casting, etc.) ? What SOCIAL  skills have you used to successfully complete your work (team-working, negotiation, persuasion, etc.)?

    You should also add any TIMELINE RESEARCH to your blog and if possible change the blog date for these posts to some time during the production process.

    In order to get full marks for RESEARCH you must produce a full colour A3 poster showing the history of your chosen medium and the work of influential artsists.

    You will present your work in the form of a Timeline.

    Take a look at this showing the history of LEGO:

    Remember, timelines do not need to be horizontal:

    You will investigate past and current work related to capture in the specific medium you have chosen to work in, e.g.:

    • cell animation
    • time-lapse photography
    • painting with light
    • mixed-media/collage
    • video art
    • rotoscoping
    • graffiti art.

    You will need to identify how practice has developed over time in relation to different practitioners, and explain the reasons for that development. You will also need to show how, and perhaps why, current practice differs from previous practice.

    You need to:

    explore past and current practice in the medium  in which you chose to work

    look at how factors such as historical developments have influenced current practice

    explore approaches to capture by different practitioners.

    explain the impact of digital technologies on the development of your medium

    SOME RULES:

    You will be expected to use a variety of sources to find your information. You must include AT LEAST TWO books, so go to the LRC during your free periods!

    You will be expected to provide full information about where you have taken images from, so you must ACKNOWLEDGE any images that you use that are NOT YOUR OWN.

    You are being marked on the DETAIL OF YOUR RESEARCH and the QUALITY OF YOUR DESIGN so think about how best to present your information visually. Take a look at this example showing the history of the micro-blogging site, Twitter:

    WHEN YOU WILL WORK:

    On Tuesday at Coleridge you will reflect on the skills you’ve developed in the Unit then the rest of the time will be forinternet research, find images, develop on your own artwork and to create a draft of your timeline on paper. In the afternoon you will have some time to research from our bookshelves in B102.

    Wednesday’s lesson is working on completing your Capture paperwork, blogs and sketchbooks.

    On Thursday you will be creating your A3 poster in photoshop during lesson time. The poster must be complete by 12.20, so you will be expected to have finished all the research, planning and art preparation for homework on wednesday.

    Friday is the CRaM Christmas Party in B102. There will be videogames and chocolate brownies

    While the videos you create should be understandable to an audience without the need for dialogue or narration, you should decide on an appropriate soundtrack (keeping in mind that on the lecture night the volume will probably be turned down low).

    Remember to PLAN, have a BACKUP PLAN, have EVIDENCE of your plans, have an IDEA and a SECOND IDEA and EVIDENCE of your ideas; do some RESEARCH into TEXTS and PRACTITIONERS and show where you found stuff out through REFERENCING. Keep evidence of the PROCESS, including your SKETCHBOOK and BLOG. Have PEER FEEDBACK and REFLECTION by YOU on what your peers advise.

    Stage 1: Create five frames that loop
    Using tracing paper produce an image that will loop.
    There are two ways to loop the frames:

    1. Frame 5 will go back to frame 1 and start the sequence all over again. (1,2,3,4,5 > 1,2,3,4,5 etc.)

    2. The sequence will go in reverse after frame 5.
    (1,2,3,4,5 > 4,3,2,1 > 2,3,4,5 etc.)

    Stage 2: Upload into Photoshop
    Using a stills camera, Photo Booth or a scanner.

    Stage 3: Create the images
    In Photoshop centralize the drawings and save as jpegs.

    Stage 4: iStopMotion test
    In a new Photoshop project set up the looping sequence.
    Make the motion travel from left to right on the screen.
    Save (As) each stage as a jpeg and import into iStopmotion.
    (Main menu > Movie > Import Images)
    Test your animation.

    Stage 5: Project the image & draw the frames
    Open the 5 jpegs in Preview. Connect your laptop to the digital projector. Copy out the frames on the cardboard sheets using a board marker pen.
